Effexor should be taken with food. A once-daily dose can be taken either in the morning or the evening. Twice-daily doses should be taken approximately 10 to 12 hours apart, during waking hours. Three-times-a-day doses should be taken 6 to 8 hours apart.
Missed Doses
If a dose of once-daily Effexor is missed by a few hours, take it as soon as remembered then get back on schedule the next day. Don't take two doses the next day in an attempt to "catch up."
If on a more frequent dosage schedule, and a dose is missed by a couple of hours, take it as soon as remembered and then get back on track with successive doses. If it's almost time for the next dose, however, skip the missed one altogether. Never take a double dose in an attempt to "catch up." Taking Effexor at regular times of the day can help prevent missed doses.
